The world is borderless and seemingly smaller in a
way. Today, information and capital flow from one
continent to another within minutes by a simple click.
Efficiencies of such magnitude relentlessly drives
huge Financial Services Groups to re-align their business
strategies while mergers and acquisitions rapidly
rose over recent years.
Increasingly,
as more manufacturers relocate themselves to countries
with lower operation cost, the loss of business in
Singapore has taken its toll on the Insurance industry
and our workers. Blended with a high business cost
in Singapore,

companies are further pressurized to adopt a "survival of the
fittest" approach. Tools for cost-cutting measures such as manpower
planning, multi-tasking and job enlargement are not new to any
of us today for companies to remain lean while competitive.
Boon it
may be to some while in consequence, workers constantly find
themselves challenged with the brunt of many social problems
such as

For SIEU
to make a difference for you, we need your feedback and ideas.
Activities like our Members' Night, Awareness and Counseling
programs were organised for this very purpose. Channels like
our quarterly publication, The Assureds, are aimed to be a
useful tool for sharing information with you. Now, we witness
the birth of another channel for information sharing, our
very own SIEU website. Being a caring union, we want to do
more for you. We need to, for SIEU and you.
The launching
of this website timely coincides with our 50th Anniversary
Celebrations. Striding it out in a modest way, we trust you
will find it informative and helpful.
